Save Customer

As part of the Export process, this is actually a two part workflow. The first part is located in an Observer \RocketWeb\NetSuiteCustomer\Observer\CustomerSaveObserver::execute() and it has a simple workflow. If conditions:

Module is Enabled
Feature is Enable
Is not marked to be skipped
The customer has Placed Orders OR is Export Forced

are all met, an Export Queue Message is created with Customer ID attached to it & sent into the Queue. The Observer is linked into customer_save_after event which means its triggered in all areas (frontend/adminhtml).

Transform Magento Customer into NetSuite format

Before the transformation happens, the \RocketWeb\NetSuiteCustomer\Model\Process\Export\CustomerSave::process() checks that Customer exists in Magento and checks if the Customer can be found in NetSuite thru usage of externalIdString. The actual mapping happens in \RocketWeb\NetSuiteCustomer\Model\Mapper\Customer::getNetsuiteFormat(). The Mapping is hardcoded which means that any modifications require an Observer or Plugin usage. The Event trigger is netsuite_customer_send_before and contains both $netsuiteCustomer format and $magentoCustomer that was pulled from database. The recommanded approach creating customizations is a use of Plugin on \RocketWeb\NetSuiteCustomer\Model\Mapper\Customer::getNetsuiteFormat() when modifications of structure or main data is needed and use of Plugin on \RocketWeb\NetSuiteCustomer\Model\Mapper\Customer::getAddressBookInNetsuiteFormat() when Address-related modifications are needed.

Sending request to NetSuite

If the Customer is not found in NetSuite, we send an \NetSuite\Classes\AddRequest to NetSuite. If it exists, we send \NetSuite\Classes\UpdateRequest request. In some cases, the Customer is not found by our first check thru the usage of externalIdString (so AddRequest is sent) but NetSuite reports DUP_ENTITY. In that case, we retry the request by using UpdateRequest. The response contains the Customer internal ID which we save into netsuite_internal_id custom attribute.
